There is a standard version, but if you have the money, you can also buy the Persol Steve McQueen Le Mans sunglasses.
I have featured the standard version in the past, and to be honest, there’s nothing wrong with that design.
It’s the Persol 714, a design McQueen loved during his career and wore in his movies, too—most notably, the Thomas Crown Affair. But this design is a tribute to another iconic Steve McQueen movie.
Like the original, this is a set of Italian-made (and handmade) foldable sunglasses and cool as sunglasses come. The difference here is the construction and the finish. This limited edition of the 714 Steve McQueen has been created to celebrate a century of the iconic race and the Hollywood star who brought it to life in the film Le Mans.
So, a new colour, with ivory frames and lenses plated with real gold and presented in an exclusive ivory box based on the colour scheme of the movie/car. The frames also feature Persol and Steve McQueen branding, which is subtly featured within.
As I said, sunglasses don’t get much cooler—but you do have to pay to look this cool. As far as I can see, this take on the 714 is only available directly from Persol and costs £433. It’s a little more if you want engraving or prescription lenses (which you can do at the site).
