As the sun is starting to shine, seems like a good time to mention the Persol Steve McQueen Special Edition sunglasses.

Steve McQueen was a huge Persol fan, both on and off the big screen. He apparently built up a large collection over his lifetime, worn whether he was on the bike in the car or casually during a movie scene.

In fact, when he appeared in The Thomas Crown Affair, he was wearing a pair of Persol 714 sunglasses. Which is what we have here.

McQueen loved the folding version of this classic and as a result, that’s the version that has his name attached. There are different versions available, but if you want the one he loved the most, you want to go for the style with the light Havana frame and crystal blue lenses. That’s the one at the top of the page. Although I personally prefer the darker frame. Each to their own.

The look is hip and timeless, but with the added convenience (and novelty) of the folding mechanism, packing down the sunglasses to boost portability. There’s also that lovely leather case to pack them into as well.

The sunglasses are made in Italy, with acetate frames and the crystal polar blue lens which have an anti-glare treatment.

Very nice, but the Persol Steve McQueen Special Edition sunglasses don’t come cheap at £319. Note that you can get standard Persol foldable sunglasses for much less and in truth, perhaps no one will notice the difference. Well, apart from yourself.
