I don’t play golf, but I could be tempted if more clothing was as eye-catching as the Liam retro golfing shirts by Malbon.

Yes, a whole new genre of Mod golf clothing (if you ignore vintage reissue designs like the Slazenger Goldfinger sweater). Ok, it’s not a collection; it’s more of a one-off. But one design is at least a start.

It comes courtesy of Malbon, a fairly new label founded in 2017 by ‘culture and golf enthusiasts’ Stephen and Erica Malbon. The idea is to move away from the usual golf attire and to create something more interesting and ‘fun’ if you like.

But the Liam golfing shirts are the first designs that go down a 1960s route, along with some button knits you’ll find in the sale section.

Part of the wider Winston collection, both are full-button cotton kits with short sleeves, contrasting stripes and a polo-style collar. Look to have a bit of room too, which you might need if you are walking around and swinging a club in one. Not that you have to. They’ll work for casual wear as well.

Each one is finished with an ‘M’ logo and sells for $175. That’s right, it’s a US company, so this design is from the US only right now. However, older pieces have made it to UK golf shops – so that might be the case with these too. But if you do order, there’s 10 per cent off first orders if you sign up for their newsletter.

Either way, an interesting concept if you like a round or two on the course.
