It has landed in Japan, but not over here yet. But my five picks from the new Beams Plus range should land here very soon.

Or at least, that’s what I would hope. But the reality is not everything makes its way over from Japan. I presume because some of the buyers of Beams Plus for UK stores decide against some pieces. Or maybe some items just aren’t made available for overseas markets?

Whatever the reason, some, but perhaps not all, of these, will land here. The majority probably will. There is an option to buy directly from Beams Plus in Japan, and the prices look better than here. But once you’ve factored in delivery and the dreaded customs tax, I suspect there isn’t a saying at all. Shame.

Why should you be bothered about Beams Plus? Well, for me, they make clothing of excellent quality, with much of it inspired by the 1960s and, specifically, ivy league styles. Not everything. Some items are a bit ‘way out’. But much of it will appeal to anyone with a love of that era and look.

So with that in mind, I have picked out five things that I think might appeal. Here they are.

1. Vintage-style tipped sports t-shirt

See above and the top of the page for this one, and yes, it is in different colours.

Love everything about this for the summer. The vintage look, the tipping on the collar and cuffs, the sweater-style hem and the collegiate-style badge. I really hope this one lands.

Works out at around £57 in Japan. But like all the prices here, likely to be more when they hit UK stores.

2. Brown check Harrington jacket

Hard to make this one out, really. You’ll probably need to visit the Beams Plus site to see a close-up to appreciate.

Yes, it’s a Harrington, no doubt made to the highest quality (like all Beams Plus). But it’s the cloth that appeals. A brown check that adds a level of ‘formal’ to the jacket, unlike many others on the market. Very suave.

£243 in Japan, so likely to be a pricey affair over here.

3. Vintage stripe knit cardigan

Don’t get hung up on the colour, as there are plenty to choose from.

And they all look good, especially if you fancy some 1960s-inspired knitwear in your wardrobe. A five-button will cardigan with contrasting stripes and great for formal and casual.

£94 for one of these in Japan.

4. Nylon golfing jacket

If the Harrington above was a bit much for you, then this more casual style might appeal.

It’s available in several colours, with each based loosely around the Harrington without actually being one. This is a nylon jacket for the summer months (so good for the occasional shower) with a drawstring waist and easy-access side pockets. Practical and timeless.

This one is £175 in the Japanese store.

5. Zip knitted polo shirt

Again, plenty of colours to choose from for this vintage design.

Another that works great for formal or casual, as well as under something or on its own when the sun shines. Zip front, short sleeves, the contrasting front with the stripes and diamonds, plus the finished sleeve and hem.

£95 in Japan. Likely more over here.

If any catch your eye, key stockists of Beams Plus in the UK are End Clothing and the Hip Store. Some items might well have started creeping in.
