Fancy looking like a wise guy in a cult classic movie? You might want to invest in the Goodfellas replica knitwear by Scott Fraser Collection.
But it doesn’t come cheap. The Scott Fraser Collection is a premium knitwear brand. Limited editions, produced in Portugal and made to last. Like all the best knitwear. I’ve got knits going back years – some even decades – because sometimes you need to buy once and buy well.
And you’ll be buying well if you pick up one of these. Described as ‘the closest you’ll get to the pieces you see on screen’, there are two designs available based on the knits worn by Henry Hill in the 1900 crime flick, both the latest additions to the label’s Icons range. The first focused on the Talented Mr Ripley. If you want to check those out – they are still available.
The first design is called Idlewild and was produced using an original vintage piece as worn in the movie. Countless shades of grey are set into a black main body of merino wool, something that was ‘extremely technical to produce’. The end result is the perfect replica, recreating the complexity of the knitted stripe and the exact shades of greys used. The front panel also includes two horizontal hip pockets and a full mother-of-pearl button front.
If you want something more colourful, check out the Salerno knit. This one has a deep navy blue main body and a custom-dyed royal blue front panel. According to the maker, they had the original Goodfellas knit, but no yarn supplier had the right shade of blue for it – so one was custom-dyed to match. That’s the level of detail here, and I applaud it.
It also has a white and red stripe running vertically down the front with a set of domed-covered buttons down the front placket. Note also that the buttons have been re-created to have the same shape and size EXACTLY as the original.
Some sizes are available, and others are being restocked soon. If you want one in your wardrobe you are looking £310.
