Yes, there are plenty of Gazelles around. But if you want to be particularly nerdy, have a look at these 1971 reissue Adidas Gazelle trainers.

I’ve only seen them at the official Adidas store and to be honest, there isn’t a huge amount of difference between these and standard Gazelles to the ‘untrained’ eye.

But sometimes it’s the small details that make all the difference. And of course, collectors lap up this kind of thing.

The difference here, as the headline says, is that this is a shoe based on the 1971 silhouette. Last year Adidas was big on the 1980s shape but this year it has gone back a decade or more to bring back a shoe that was all about simplicity.

1971 is a significant year as it was the year before Adidas went for the Trefoil logo on the heel, which was introduced in 1972. So the reissue here, as well as working on the shape of the shoe available in 1972, also omits that logo too.

As I said, it is all about the small details and bringing back the Gazelle when it was at its most minimalist.

Of course, you can’t get away from the fact that this is a Gazelle and this Adidas classic keeps its suede upper, contrast detailing for the heel and the stripes, the gum sole and the Adidas-branded tongue, Yes, the Gazelle branding to the side too.

This isn’t a range, this is one reissue. So just the blue and white available right now and also, only available directly from Adidas as far as I can see. But let me know if that’s wrong.

In terms of price, a bit more than you would pat in 1971, with a pair retailing for £90.
