The original white and red is still available, but there’s now a 1960s Adidas Japan trainers reissue in all black.

The white and red Adidas Japan was probably one of the most popular reissues of this year. A long-awaited return in the original colours, a few years after the pricey premium version of the shoe sold out almost as soon as it went online.

So, no surprise to see another colour being offered. But it’s surprising to see this one.

The bright shade of the original is replaced with the complete opposite. An all-black sports shoe. Some like black, some don’t – it’s likely to be a reissue that divides the audience. But it’s certainly a practical one compared to white.

As you probably know, this was a shoe produced way back in 1964, a tie-in for the Olympics in Tokyo, which were held (as you might have guessed) in 1964.

The design hasn’t changed a great deal over the subsequent 60 or so years, and that’s a massive plus. I love the 1960s designs of Adidas and particularly this one.

So a fairly slim, low-profile shoe in black, with gold foil branding on the side, a leather pull tab on the heel, and a natural gum sole unit finishing things off.

Just out, with some sizes already selling through. This one retails for £110.
